A Factsheet from

Juggling nappies and invoices? You’re not alone but you need a plan.
You’re up at 2am with a teething baby, or managing school runs, or caring for an ageing parent, while trying to run your business and you feel like you’re failing at both.

You’re doing something incredible and with the right support, structure and compassion for yourself, you can make it work:
Redefine success
Maybe you can’t work 40 hours a week. Maybe growth is slower but if your business gives you flexibility, purpose and enough income, that’s success.
Block your time
Use a weekly planner to map out:
- Carer responsibilities
- Work hours
- Admin time
- Breaks
Time-blocking helps you see what’s possible and protects your energy.
Be ruthless with tasks
Do the high-value stuff. Automate the rest. Ditch perfection. Delegate what drains you even if that means hiring a cleaner instead of a VA. Schedule shorter meetings, If people know they have 30 minutes instead of 60 they’ll get through the same agenda in half the time.
Communicate with your clients
Set clear expectations. Use autoresponders. Let people know your hours. Most will respect boundaries if you set them early and are consistent.
Tap into support
Explore:
- Carer’s Allowance – GOV.UK
- Tax-Free Childcare
- Local family hubs or carer support networks
Some local enterprise agencies even offer child-friendly coworking spaces.
Make peace with pausing
If you need to slow down or take a break, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed. Build savings or passive income where you can. Schedule breaks like you would deadlines.
Find your tribe
Online communities offer solidarity, advice and practical tools. Being seen changes everything.
You can’t pour from an empty cup. But with the right systems and support, you can run a business and care for the people who need you most including yourself.
